We know that misbehavior, was a term that was used with the traditional discipline, and that implies intentionally bas actions for a child that must be disciplined or punished, this term contributes moral labeling of the child, the term misbehavior is a close to a moral labeling of the child, children who misbehave all the time are seen as naughty, rowdy, or unkind, children tend to internalize on themselves those negative labels, and see themselves as they are labeled, and react accordingly to it, teachers and parents must be careful not to label the children and launch them into a negative cycle. That is why this term was switched to mistaken behavior according to the new way to teach that now today has been called guidance.
Mistaken behavior is a phrase we can encountered reading in the book of “A guidance approach for the encouraging classroom” write by Dan Gartrell, where according to Driekurs who refers to the behavior of a child who is trying to feel important in ways that are distressing to the parent as mistaken behavior rather than misbehavior.
