Missy Reflection

Today, February 6, 2017, I was able to have another fairly typical day with Missy on the medical/surgical unit. Except for today, I began to gain even more independence with activities/play sessions and would call Missy for assistance for any education/preparation or distraction. I began the morning by checking the census/bed status list, checking the surgery list, and then creating my plan for the day, pending anyone calling the Cisco phone for assistance in procedures or for play sessions. The main patient interaction that I facilitated was with a 7-year-old female who is a long term patient on our unit. I planned and set up the activities prior to entering the playroom and decided on an art activity and a “Frozen” puzzle. I wonder now if the patient needed attention and to be stimulated since she had only had contact with the CPS sitter and the medical staff for roughly 12-15 hours. Another insight that just occurred to …show more content…
I was surprised to see that half of the group were already familiar with child life. I thoroughly enjoyed Jessie’s presentation and thought that she gave a great explanation of what our role entails and when it is appropriate to consult her or any child life therapist. I thought that it was so successful and the new nursing staff appeared receptive. I wish we could give more presentations like this to new staff members to help illustrate our role and appropriate

She is actively engaged, enthusiastic, and is fully immersed in the topics that are taught to her. Moreover, she has taken the initiative to research various topics on her own and later shared the information to foster positive discussions. Jenny is regarded as the perfect embodiment of a self-learner and as someone who has an insatiable thirst for knowledge. I truly enjoyed the stimulating learning environment she has created within the clinic. Although Jenny is at the clinic to merely observe, she is always eager to assist staff members when given the chance.…

During my attendance to the Seattle Children’s Hospital Nursing Camp, I job shadowed multiple Registered Nurses in the Cancer Care Unit, Medical Floor, Operating Room, and Neonatal Intensive Care Unit. In each department, I was able to observe the daily tasks of a nurse and how they interact with different patients. Not only did I job shadow nurses, but I also learned how to different procedures, such as: how to replace a trachea device, take blood pressures, insert feeding tubes, and how to inject vitamins and foods into feeding tubes. Through this, I assured myself that I really wanted to be a nurse.…

Today, March 31, 2017, continued my second week in my rotation at Norton Women’s and Children’s Hospital. I became more familiar with the role of a child life specialist at Norton Women’s and Children’s Hospital, as well as observed and participated in patient interactions with great debriefing with Kristi. The child life service that I wish to highlight from today is urodynamics. I learned that urodynamic studies examine how well the bladder, urethra, and sphincters are able to store and release urine. Therefore, most urodynamic studies test the bladder’s ability to hold and empty urine.…

I thought your presentation was very organized and easy to follow. I was surprised by the salaries that were mentioned. On November 9th, Erin and I co-facilitated a group discussion around trauma-informed practice as part of our Group Facilitation assignment as second-year nursing students. The process consisted of choosing a peer-reviewed article related to trauma-informed practice, then creating a Facilitation Plan around the article and relevant course theory, and finally facilitating a group discussion. As the next step towards the development of our group facilitation skills, we were assigned to write a critical reflection about the experience of facilitating a group discussion. Through this paper I provided a summary of our group facilitation experience, explored group dynamics, what I perceived as our strengths and challenges, what I have learned from…

Reflection About Classroom Teaching Experience Being an educator is a challenge and a new learning experience each time. As an educator, I am entrusted with the responsibility of shaping the way students think and feel in the classroom. I have always wanted to be an educator and share my experiences with the new generation of nurses.
