One of the most important decisions in every teenager’s newly forming adult lives is the ever haunting question of what university or colleges to attend. Of all academic universities available, two seemed more approachable: Missouri State University and Duke University. Missouri State University was founded in 1905 and was originally used to prepare teachers for public school systems in the midwest. Before Duke University became known as Duke University, it was first known as Trinity college built in 1838 by a Methodist and Quaker community. In 1924, Trinity college came to be known as Duke University in memory of James Buchanan Duke’s father who had passed away. Duke kept its historic affiliation with the Methodist Church. After comparing Missouri State University and Duke University, it is clear that the latter stands above in medical research, academic rigor, and campus life. For many students considering a career in the medical field, the University’s medical research capabilities is a deciding factor. Biomedical research, or medical research, is conducted to aid a general understanding of medicine and help make everyday life a little easier. This area of research needs three essential things, clinical research, funding and the accountability of ethical standards.
