The stated expectation for Mina was that she could not marry someone from another culture. She needed to marry someone who practiced her own religion and one who belonged to the same culture. The Unstated expectation was that her father wanted her to become college students. Mina knew that she needed to become somebody, but it was never motivated by her father or her mother. On the other hand, Demetrius stated expectation was to prosper and become the business man his mother always wanted him to be. He was able to open up a business, but was struggling to keep it up. In Mina’s situation, her family refused that she could fall in love with a black person. This opposition could have been because Mina’s dad was discriminated for not being black, back in Uganda. Mina’s family felt that she dishonor her culture and her family by falling in love with a black individual. On the other hand, Demetrius family was disappointed that Demetrius was willing to risk all his hard work for a girl from India. Demetrius family and friends were upset that he had put his business in danger for a girl from a different culture. His family only care about the success of Demetrius, and Mina’s family cared about her dignity. However, Demetrius family really like Mina, they were just concerned that Demetrius was going to lose his business because of the bad reputation the Indian community portrait on Demetrius business. On the other hand, Mina’s family did not like Demetrius at all, and that was the root cause of the problem between the two
