Mission Trips

People can use what they are passionate about to help the community around them as well as the people within them. I have a passion to help other by going on mission trips, whether they be large or small they both impact in great ways.I have attended four to five missions trips over the last four years and each one is a different experience. You never know who you will encounter, whose life you could change, what the effect of your work could do to the community or how people will react when we are there. With each trip the work and community are always different. You will always be hard at work either building a deck, roof, or even painting a house. The community can react in a number of ways, they can appreciate that you are they to help

It was the first day of our medical mission trip. The 13 of us were divided into four group: triage, clinic, pharmacy, and faith. Colin, Laure, and I sat in plastic white lawn chairs, facing the locals who sat on three wooden benches. We had prepared a short, spiritual lesson to bring Jesus’ love to the rural cities of the Dominican Republic. When I welcomed them in their native language, their faces softened.…

I was only 14 when I went on my mission trip, but experiencing that such a young age has shaped me for who I am. I was involved in three mission trips, which all occurred in the States, but in all three-mission trips I helped people who I believe needed it most. I was proud of what I did and I think it was something that not a lot of people did at my age. One of my biggest motivators were the people I was helping. After going on my first trip, I had bonded with others and had made me realize what the real world is like outside a small town in Iowa.…

Ever since I came to Xaverian in 2013, I have looked forward to being able participate in Christian Senior Service. The fact that Xaverian gives students the opportunity to give back to their community last quarter of their Senior year (and high school career) is extremely invaluable. I have always enjoyed doing service. It is something that I know helps the people I am serving, but also makes me feel good inside. Helping those around me is a desire that comes natural to me.…

Africa and mission trips are two topics that go hand in hand. When one is mentioned, the other is surly to follow. But this was not always the case. Missionary presence in Africa started around the fifteenth century when Portugal first made contact with Africa for trading routes. In order to gain land near the sea, the Portuguese “initiated the "Reconquista" project to recover Iberian lands from the Muslims” (Kalu 782-787).…

Mission's Trip The third week of June, 2015, marks the week my perspective on life changed. This trip contributed to the obliteration of my egotistical state of mind. I went on a prayer tour, spent time at an elderly apartment complex, helped at a community outreach, served at a food bank, and visited a children's learning center. Each of these experiences affected me differently, but were similar in that they all changed my outlook on life.…

The purpose of a mission trip is not to save everyone or solve hunger. Many people who take mission trip have this mentality, and I 'm not going to lie, my first mission trip this is what I expected. I believed that I was going to be the one person to go down and “change” the people. This idea is far from reality, but I realize that you can make a difference in some people’s lives. I have taken a few mission trips to the Dominican Republic, where I have built relationships with the people down there.…

I believe everyone has an ability to create a positive change in community. As Kofi Annan, the former secretary general of United Nations said, “Young people should be at the forefront of global change and innovation”, strengthen my desire that I am an agent of change to make this world a better place. The little change I always want to install is creating sustainability and better livelihood as a solution because humanity is placing inordinate demands on nature and our environment condition is getting worse. My biggest dream as a world-class landscape architect will address those issues both in my home country and global scale through my main duty to preserve and conserve environment by configuring and designing open spaces.…
