Going to China on a mission trip has by far been my most rewarding experience. It was in October of my 5th grade year. I went with my mom and a few other people from our church. Most of our time was spent at an orphanage called Shepherd's Field. This orphanage is not other orphanages in China, this orphanage took the children that were disabled and born with diseases. While we were there we helped out with the kids. Shepherds field was so beautiful, when we got there it was dark out, so I couldn’t really see much but I remember pulling in and a few of the older kids running up with smiles on their faces and greeting us. I looked around and there were trees and I could tell it was a “magical” place. The next morning we woke up and were playing with a few …show more content…
As we were walking we went into each of the houses and walked around and saw the diversity of each house and how the kids schedules worked. The last house we went to was very different than any of the others. This house was the house for all the extremely sick kids. There were some kids we weren’t allowed to be around and so we went in the room where the babies were. I walked in and saw this little girl laying on the floor, I could tell she was different than most babies, they told me her name was Joelle. This little innocent baby Joelle had a tumor on her spine and another near her brain. She couldn’t move or talk and it broke my heart to see her. I laid down on the ground next to her and i just held her hand. As I was holding her hand she wrapped her little hand around mine and that was always going to be a part of my life. I went to see her every chance I got. I played with the other kids and always made sure she was safe and didn’t get hit or hurt. One day as I was sitting there with Joelle an another little girl with a very bad cleft palate crawled right up next to

I went to the Galapagos Islands and learned so much from my two week period of being there. I got to see amazing animals and meet very interesting people that I would have never encountered if I never would have ventured outside of my small home town Mooresville North Carolina. Seeing something in real life instead of a book or movie is a real eye opener. Many people do not get to see new cultures because of money or just have no interest in seeing new things. I feel very privileged that in my short lifetime I had the opportunity to go places and see things that most people will never get the chance to see in their lifetime.…

After brain surgery, radiation, and many sessions of chemotherapy the doctors had told us he was now in remission and the cancer was at a minimum.
