I believe it would be unfair to insist Alex operate beyond his scope comprehension as discussed in Vygotsky’s zone of proximal development (p. 197) Due to Alex’s parents recent separation, his mother’s health issues, and change in classroom setting and teaching styles, among other significant life changes, Alex seems to lack the scaffolding, adult engagement, frequent feedback, cooperative learning activities, peer collaboration, planning, negotiation, and encouragement necessary for his learning and performance to be enhanced (p. 197). The case…

For nine years I have worked with middle school students and have enjoyed every moment with them. I strongly believe this is the age groups where students need the most help on deciding rather they will continue their education or dropout. Middle school is where I plan on servicing children, so to get out of my comfort zone, I selected a high school article. The high school article is called, “Social Emotional Learning in High School: How Three Urban High Schools Engage, Educate, and Empower Youth,” by MarYam G. Hamedani and Linda Darling-Hammond. Research on implementing Social Emotional Learning is usually implemented in elementary school and studies have showed that it was very effective.…
