Mission Santa Barbara art mainly consisted of its gardens, architecture, and statues. The works of art and statues in the church and museum display angels, saints and Bible stories. The small statues of St. Dominic and St. Francis are particularly fine figures whose faces display a feeling of emotional intensity which is usual of baroque art. The church is similar to those built in Mexico in the mid 1800's. It is principally neoclassical in style, consisting of the enriching devices and features from the era of the Roman Empire. The infamous capitals on top of the pilasters resonate the ones on the surface of the building, and were viewed as appropriate by the Romans for a temple committed to a goddess.
