Mission
The mission of the Dallas Crime Analysis Unit (CAU) is to provide accurate operational, strategic, tactical and administrative intelligence base off of the analysis of crime related data. The Dallas CAU will provide information that coincides with the agency’s goals as well as all community oriented policing efforts in a timely manner. The Dallas CAU is responsible for monitoring all criminal activity in Dallas County to identify any evolving and emerging patterns, series, and trends in criminal activities. The Dallas Police Department CAU is a multifunctional unit that serves departmental commanders by providing intelligence data to aid in the decision-making process, while also serving the patrolling function of the Dallas Police Department with information to promote awareness of current crime trends within the community to aid in the timely apprehension of criminal offenders. This crime analysis data will also be remotely accessible for patrolling officers while they conduct their daily duties. Investigators are also supported by the Dallas Police Department CAU through further offender research products including association charts and link analysis. Hard copies of all products will be produced and disseminated to designated personnel and while all officers of the department will have the ability to access the product on the Department Police Intranet.
Crime bulletins will be used to inform the Department of short-term series, patterns or trends in crime. Daily bulletins will be used to assist patrol supervisors in determining personnel deployment to best counter identified crime issues. Weekly bulletins will be used to disseminate CAU findings from each precinct encompassing all series, patterns or trends of crime within Dallas County. Other bulletins may be distributed for any necessary department needs or urgent situations as determined by the Crime Analysis Supervisor.
Weekly, monthly and quarterly comparison maps will be distributed to show the disposition of current crime issues. These maps can aid in identifying problem crime areas including some of the most common types of patterns: series, sprees, repeat victim, the repeat offender, hotspot, hot target, and hot
