I feel as if I don’t have a sense of belonging at Santa Clara High School. I don’t feel comfortable with my classmates. I am also finding that it is difficult to learn in the environment at Santa Clara High School. Many other students do not seem to focus during class and become distractions. Due to the fact that there are so many students in the class that it is hard to receive individualized attention from the teacher. It is challenging to have productive discussions and to do group work. From what I understand, in speaking with other students who are currently attending the Middle College program at Mission College, their classmates are much more mature and the class sizes are much smaller. Supplemental Questions 1) Coming from a low-income, Mexican-American family and being a first generation college student, I have struggled to pay for tuition and fees in the past. In high school, I was never told what kinds of financial aid options were available, yet alone how to apply for loans and how they operated. This prompted me to research the vast amount of financial aid offered here at Diablo Valley College. Not only do I know about general financial aid information, but I can provide the necessary assistance to students who either need information or be navigated through the FAFSA.…

Well it has been almost 4 months that I have been attending Roanoke Valley Early College. I love it here and I don’t see how anyone couldn’t. So far I have learned a lot about school. By taking time to observe my surroundings and everyone around me, I have learned that everyone in high school is not your friend and that I am learning how to sense a bad vibe before I let anyone get too close to me. RVEC is the only school that has taught me that all teachers are not these people that hate their job because the teachers here including the ones I don’t take yet are always showing us that they really want to be there and help us and teach us.…

As the season of fall approaches here at Texas A&M University Corpus Christi, I have reached the middle of my fall semester as a freshmen college student. Midterms are approaching and I am pulling my hair out due to the sleepless nights and long hours of studying for midterms. There are some students are planning activities for Halloween while I on the other hand am preparing my study guide for my Microeconomic midterm. The closest to a break I would have from school would be Thanksgiving break, and during the break I would return home and begin working for my family. All the stress I am feeling about school could be due to my unorganized school schedule and responsibility of renting an apartment.…

Lee Early College (LEC) has been in my thoughts ever since my older sister Payton has attended there. My sister and I are very close; she has taught me so much about life and school. LEC seems like the type of school for me because I’m very intelligent, hardworking, sociable and independent.…

I really want to attend Azusa Pacific because my faith is very big part of my life. I went to private Christian schools all elementary school until I had to transfer to public schools from 6th to 12th grade. When you go from a small environment with caring people all focused on serving god, to a place where there are nice people and many Christians but, surrounded by people who curse god and show no respect to anyone. I did continue to attend church my whole time in public schools while going to various youth groups during the week. I believe that if I went to a smaller christian based school then it would be a great environment for me to focus on god and school.…

I was observing students between 9 A.M. and 12P.M. on a Monday morning, September 12, 2016. I was able to observe about 15 current and prospective students. The college is located in Central City area neighborhood on Buckeye and 12 street, and most of the students at this campus are considered to be “at-risk” students. The student population of Gateway is very diverse, but they have a lot of similarities as well.…

“I know applying to colleges is the last thing you want to do right now, but you might change your mind,” a trusted friend told me. It was December of my senior year of high school, and college application deadlines were approaching quickly. I was recovering from a major illness at the time, and wasn’t ready to think about college. My plan was to spend a year living at home and working before I pursued higher education. Recently, I had a learning experience from my internship that will help me even more in my pursuit in the field of social work. The day that this event occurred it helped me be able to be the teacher rather than the student to my intern advisors. Being that Voyage house is a support program for clients, we help to provide them with the necessities of food and household items from those that have no income. Therefore, we take them to Walmart and give them a budget that they are able to work with since they only need to provide resources just for them to living off. This was on a Friday where I had to miss group because I had something to do at school that morning; therefore, I just met my intern advisor later that day at Walmart.…
