The case was brought to me to by the district police. They are looking for answers to solve the recent missing/homicide case. The backlogs are backed up of missing person cases in the district police. A middle-aged couple was out doing an early morning jog when they discovered a human skull buried in the dirt. They claimed to have been out jogging in the local Chesterville park. They stated that they stopped to get a drink when they stumbled upon what appeared to be a human skull and a tibia. They called the police. When the police arrived at the scene they unearth two human skeletons. The skeletons looked like they have been there for away without disturbance. One of the bodies looked to a teenager or adult and the other one …show more content…
Gender was the longest test done. I measured the pelvis, skull, tibia and humerus. The results were astonishing. I used a female and male pelvis pictures, vernier calipers, tape measure, a ruler, and protractor to find the angles and or lengths of parts of the bones. I measured the sub-pubic angle first and it came out to be 90 degrees(male). Next, the pubis body width, it measured out to be 25-30 mm long(male). The Greater Sciatic Notch was less than 68 degrees which came out to be female. Lastly, the Pelvic Cavity Shape was circular/wide and mainly showing the coccyx(female). Next, I measured the skull. The upper edge of the eye orbit was sharp meaning it was a female. Next, the eye orbit, the results were round meaning female. The zygomatic process is a projection of the temporal bone that forms part of the zygoma. The results were not expressed beyond the external auditory meatus(female). The Nuchal Crest(Occipital Bone) was not rough and bumpy meaning that it was smooth and female. The External Occipital Protuberance was present meaning it was male. The frontal bone was round and globular meaning female. When a mandible bone is rounded and V-shaped it means female. The results was female. The ramus of mandible was slanting also indicating female. The tibia all equaled out to be female. The Maximum Epiphyseal Breadth of Proximal Tibia was 70.6 …show more content…
Facial reconstruction is performed by a sculptor. The sculptor will work with forensic anthropologists to intercept features of the skeleton that will tell the age, sex and ancestry of the victim. They can also reveal anatomical features such as facial asymmetry, evidence of injuries. The factors are determined by using three dimensional reconstruction or two dimensional reconstruction. The 3D reconstruction technique requires the sculptor to place tissue markers on the skull at certain points and when the clay is put on the reconstruction it looks as close to the victim as possible to be identified. The 2D technique involves reconstructing a face from a body that is decaying. The artist uses their knowledge about how the soft tissue of the skin lies on the skull and how the body decomposes to create a reconstruction of what the victim may have looked like before death. The 2D technique are cost effective more than 3D reconstruction and they save time when they accomplish the same thing. Facial reconstruction could have helped this case by making the the final determination of the victim. It could have saved myself and my team time. We could have used the skull and some clay to pinpoint exactly what the face looks like and use the model to enter the face into a database to figure out who the skeleton belongs too. Next, some other tests/types of analysis that
