A common thought for people to think that the bikini section of the pageant is to sexualize women; A New York times article states “Pageants sexualize women’s bodies and encourage conformity to ludicrous beauty standards.”(Blain Roberts). The pageant doesn’t sexualize women, it actually wants girls to be able to walk on stage with confidence. According to Simon McCarthy, beauty pageants even took out the swimsuit division from the teen contestants and switched it to active wear. Lisa Suhay wrote an article about a “mishap that happened at the Miss Universe Pageant.” The host, Steve Harvey, read the wrong name as the winner and the girl who thought she won, Miss Colombia, was understanding and congratulated the actual winner, Miss Philippines. Everyone was shocked that Miss Colombia was so nice and handled better than the “typical diva.” The truth is, each girl won her country pageant because they had a good attitude and knew how to handle any situation coming their way. In the long run, looks aren't everything in this competition; girls have to be able to show that they are professional. To conclude, the Miss USA Pageant does not sexualize women. This pageant Interviews girls on their personality, looks for confidence, and judges off of presentation. The Miss USA Pageant is a professional event and would not sexualize women, this organization wants to let girls be role models. It's not fair
