In the short story “The Possibility of Evil” by Shirley Jackson uses several symbols to tell her story about Miss Strangeworth one symbol she used is the name of her street. She lives on Pleasant Street which suggest that it is a “perfect” street. Miss Strangeworth is considered a gracious, perfect person, but she really is not. She sends those evil letters to people, and she is not as pleasant as you think. Another symbol that is used in the short story is her name Strangeworth. It implies that something is strange about her because it is in her name. On the outside she seems so prissy, but there is something strange about her. Just because everyone thought she was so great little did they know she was the one that sent the evil letters.
