Miss. Silva Reflection

Superior Essays
Before I started to ask the questions in regards to the writing instruction she uses in her classroom, I wanted to get to know Miss. Silva a little better and understand a bit more about her so I started to ask her a couple of questions in regards to where she had attended school, why she chose teaching, and her prior field experience. She began by telling me that she graduated from Bakersfield State University with her Bachelor's degree in liberal studies where she worked for about 5 years as a tutor with different schools around the county that helped students that were falling behind in school. She told me that growing up she was a second English learner and that along the way she had met exceptional teachers that made a difference in …show more content…
Silva on the way she teaches writing is that she is very encouraging towards her students, she makes sure to find creative ways to make everyone interested in the topic. She also has a way of communicating with the students that allows her to understand each need that each student has, she had a few students that would tend to go off topic or get distracted easily by other things, so she made sure to be aware of each of these things so she could possibly find new ways to engage these students in the same topic as the others. I also learned from her that being positive about a subject is very important I got to see how some of the students would get discouraged because they could not get it right the first time, so she made sure to talk to them and encourage them to try again so they could get it. She mentioned that her overall goal when teaching writing was not to get perfect sentences, but was to get the students involved and engaged in the subject so they can learn to love writing. I felt that this was very important because it showed me how we as future educators have to motivate the success of our students whether is in writing or in any other subject. While visiting her class I felt that some of the things I saw took me back to some of the activities or lectures we had in class, to be more specific it took me back to when we were discussing how our daily schedule should look like in a classroom that is basically how her schedule is designed so it took me back to what we had originally discussed in class. Also, while being there and observing how the kids worked on their writing, it made me reflect on some of the readings we had in class, because I felt like a lot of the points that the readings had, were implemented in several different ways in the

Wednesday, September 16th, 2015 I did my observation of Paul Dunbar Middle School. Some of the first things I noticed when I entered the school was how enormous the school’s population is and how the school was mostly Hispanic and African American students. I arrived at the front desk and was asked by the assistant principal what was my preference of classroom. She then proceeded to take me the section of the school where the ESE classes are held. ESE stands for exceptional student education classes.…

Observation Report: Writing Assignment The writing assignment that I observed was a literary analysis that describes the theme of “The Cask of Amontillado” through his display of the main character’s motives. The students were instructed to provide specific examples from the text, as well as clear reasoning that explains and connects their evidence to their response. The day that I was there to observe the class the mentor teacher was finishing the unit by having the students write a five paragraph essay using a worksheet packet that they had been working on for the past several days.…

The article talks about how “she” in the past didn’t really think she could teach well. Ut after meeting with a fellow teacher it seems as she has decided to work out of her normal range, to ty and better herself as teacher. “Lasting change in teacher practice is difficult because it expects that teachers challenge and reconstruct deeply embedded practices and beliefs (Borko & Putnam, 1996; Pennington, 2005). For Grace, a third-grade teacher, practitioner research with the Triad Teacher Researchers (TTR) provided a space for her to change beliefs and practices about being a teacher” (Vetter, 2012). Teachers I think can teach if they feel they have the support of fellow administration or teachers.…

And Still We Rise by Miles Corwin 1) In this book there was two teachers, Toni Little and Anita Moultrie. These two teachers had different styles of teaching their class. One way of teaching that really popped out at me was how Toni assigned an essay to the class to see the difference in writing of the student. This way she would be able to see which students were dedicated to school or which ones where just there to be there and not even pay attention.…

I would like to make you aware of my very troubling experience during my interview on October 31st with Ramiro Campos. I was asked, in my opinion, an inappropriate question regarding this year’s election cycle. At this point, I tried to keep my response as neutral as possible in order to avoid potentially offending Mr. Campos. Personally, I feel like I expressed my views on the Presidential Election without addressing a specific candidate or political party. Mr. Campos simply listened and took notes as he had been throughout the interview.…
