This documentary Miss Representation exposes how woman in America are treated and presented through the eyes of the media. This documentary was directed by Jennifer Siebel Newsom, in January, 2011. Screen play actors were Jennifer herself, Jessica Congdon, Clarie Dietrich, and Jenny Raskin. This documentary was created to generate awareness of how woman are treated and presented in the media in verity of way’s that only included them for the male pleasure. It can be roughly defined as the seeing and/or treating a person, usually a woman, as an object. This is mainly the idea of why this documentary was created to bring awareness to this topic in adverting and media presentation. We have all seen or been aware of objectification advertising when it comes to the media or marketing of a specific brand or life style. Sad to say it’s a huge part of advertising and profitability to companies to relay a message to an audience based upon sex appeal. We have all seen it in Carl’s Jr commercials when beautiful woman market their product so they can boost their ratings and profits. We also see it in Victoria Secret models and how they present themselves on runways and posters. As for men we tend not to be objectify as much because we are suppose to be manly and not have any feminism characteristics. The Barbie doll is one of the main key media trends of objectification to woman and young girls trying to look like a perfect human being for the male pleasure and by doing so we tend to have woman starving themselves, operating themselves, and physically abusing themselves to look a certain way. Another great example is Playboy which was created for the male pleasure and is the standard of what and how woman should look like and what men expect. The only way people can fight against it and try to slow it down is to ignore it and not follow what it resembles. The media controls our lives through every outlet and resource we obtain it has consumed us and we hunger for more. The only way to change how media does business is within ourselves it begins with us not revolving our lives around what celebrity did what or what new fashion item is popular. We as consumers need to take a different aspect on how we live our lives and promote awareness for the greater good and become role models for the youth rather then who has more followers on Instagram.
