Home For Peculiar Children Book Report

After reading Miss Peregrine 's Home for Peculiar Children I found that my favorite quote, from the prologue section of the book, was after Jacob begins to doubt his grandfather 's stories. "It wasn 't until a few years later that my dad explained it to me: Grandpa had told him some of the same stories when he was a kid, and they weren 't lies, exactly, but exaggerated versions of the truth - because the story of Grandpa Portman 's childhood wasn 't a fairy tale at all. It was a horror story." (pg. 21) Jacob 's father wanted Jacob to see that the real world doesn 't involve floating girls and invisible boys and that the monsters Abraham had been running from weren 't the boogie man but horrible people who had lived long ago. Jacob 's father needed Jacob to know the real world answers he had come up with for himself rather than keep believing the fantastical stories from Grandpa Portman 's childhood.

But I didn 't wake up." (pg. 143) Jacob slowly begins to realize that his life isn 't as ordinary as he thought it was, he denied he was extraordinary until something unbelievable happened to him. In Careful by Paramore, the line "The truth never set me free, So I 'll do it myself" relates to how Jacob finally accepts that if he is going to explain what 's really going on in the island of Cairnhold and if his grandfather 's stories are true or not, he 's going to have to figure it out for
