In the book To Kill a Mockingbird, written by Harper Lee, Miss Maudie is the elderly neighbor across the street from the Finch family. She is a loyal friend to the father, Atticus Finch, and a strong influence on the two children, Jem and Scout Finch. Miss Maudie has a special connection with the young Finches. “[Their] tactic treaty with Miss Maudie was that [they] could play on her lawn, [and] eat her scuppernongs if [they] didn’t jump on the arbor…” (Lee 56). Throughout the whole neighborhood Miss Maudie defiantly puts the most time and care into her lawn and garden.
