Pip returns to back into the house to check on Miss Havisham in her room. He sees her that her dress that she had on was on fire. Desperately, Pip grabs her and rolls her on the floor, putting out the flames and doing so he saves her life. Even though Miss Havisham had wronged Estella Pip still had a heart and help Miss Havisham from burning to death.
Next the fire is a symbol of remorse you can see as Miss Havisham was speaking with Pip she regret what she had done to Estella. Pip feels he had gotten what he need from Miss Havisham all the answer to Estella and the money for Herbert. But the book shows that Pip has a heart even if Miss Havisham did and made Estella not have a heart. Pip went back in the house to save Miss Havisham from the fire.
Finally, I personally feel that this incident reinforced the novel’s theme that bad behavior can be redeemed by remorse and sympathy. Also no matter how cruel someone can be to a person, they will still be nice to you. For example Pip saved Miss Havisham from burning to death. Than whenever Estella called upon him for escort he was there with no questions asked. But Pip also made Miss Havisham see the harm she had caused that made her change her ways. The fire was a fresh start for Miss Havisham and a realization that Estella was harmed by Miss
