Miss Caroline In To Kill A Mockingbird

“Miss Caroline he is a Cunningham”. These words were spoken in the famous novel “To Kill a Mockingbird”. They are relevant because Scout was categorizing one of the children based on their social status and many animals treat each other differently depending on the class they belong to. In the novel “Animal farm”, by George Orwell, the author proves members of society will be treated differently based on their social status. There are four different classes: ruler, high, medium and low class. Ruler Napoleon just treats the animals however he wants, the pigs are looked up to by the other animals, the dogs exile and the rest of the animals are treated like slaves. The animals are very cruel to another animal if they are part of a lower class. …show more content…
The dogs obtained their status because of their connection to Napoleon. Napoleon takes them away when they are puppies and raises them until they are full grown dogs. The dogs’ status allowed them to exile the traitors for Napoleon even though it was against the commandment. Even though the dogs did not help farm or participate in constructing the windmill, they still got fed well. The brutality of the dogs is shown by this example: “When they had finished their confession, the dogs promptly tore their throats out, and in a terrible voice Napoleon demanded whether any other animal had anything to confess” (Orwell 56). This shows that the dogs can treat the lower class animals brutally without suffering any consequences. This demonstrates how dogs are a higher class than the other animals but still lower than Napoleon because they are following his orders. To conclude dogs are the third highest class. They do not do work but still are given food and a place to sleep. They are able to kill animals without any repercussions and they are Napoleon's second choice in an animal only behind the …show more content…
Napoleon is the highest, then the pigs, followed by the dogs and finally all the other animals. The animals treat each other differently based to which class they belong. Napoleon, as ruler, is treated the best and treats everyone differently depending on their status. The pigs are treated second best, the dogs are treated well and all the animals are treated poorly. Treating someone differently based on class has been a part of history and unfortunately still happens in some parts of the world today. Due to this, it makes people take a step back into the past instead of into the future. People should never prejudge someone based on their family

To begin with, the first sighting of the lack of education the animals posses is when Napoleon starts to control them. The animals were so absent minded to realize that Napoleon was building a pyramid, and placing everyone below him. For example, in the novel, it states “Napoleon denounced such ideas as contrary to the spirit of Animalism. The true happiness he said , lay in hard work and living frugally,” (Chapter 10, Pg 107). With this action taking place, it shows that Napoleon took advantage of the dictatorship and used it to his own well being instead of properly leading them.…

His blind devotion towards Napoleon only increases the destruction of freedom and equality when Boxer, “caught a dog in mid-air, and pinned him to the ground […] looked [towards] Napoleon to know whether he should crush the dog to death or let it go” (83). Napoleon caused pain to the other animals by using violence such as the dogs which breaks freedom and equality; however, despite this, Boxer listens to Napoleon’s orders. The rise of a rebellion against Napoleon was not impossible, but with Boxer’s devotion to him, it seemed to be. Even after Boxer’s obvious death, the two maxims he constantly used “I will work harder,” and “Comrade Napoleon is always right” were manipulated into words of motivation for the animals (125). With Boxer’s usual motivation, all of the things changing did not seem strange to the other animals, yet those changed items slowly but surely broke the freedom and equality.…

From this point on the reader can tell that Napoleon is going to ignore the animals' initial ideology and replace it with his own because that means that only two groups of animals were educated. Not to forget, that Napoleon isolated the dogs and educated them in a private setting to make sure that the other animals were not aware of what he was teaching the dogs. This is another technique that Napoleon used to manipulate the animals. He made sure that they trusted him when he said that he would “make himself” in charge of their education in order…
