I took a big breath preparing for my first day, stood at the doorway waiting for the hyperactive kids to briskly pile in; I was wearing a red and white striped dress paired with my finest red pumps and bright red nail polish. When all the kids were seated I went to the board and printed my name and noted where I was from with chalk. I swiftly brushed the chalk off my hands. Then I said, “The board reads I am Miss Caroline Fishere, I am from North Alabama, from Winston Country.”
The day continued on uneventfully as I read a book to them about cats and did an assortment of other activities. I choose Scout to read the Alphabet expecting her to be unsuccessful. However, to my dismay, she read all 26 letter correctly. I felt I twinge of shock
