The short story, “Ms. Brill” by Katherine Mansfield it’s a very interesting and different story. It portrays the discrepancy between what we perceive ourselves to be, and what others see. I think the theme is acceptance and loneliness. Miss Brill is a very lonely elderly woman who puts on a social mask to try to make society accept her. The end of the story, it is a strong example of symbolism. The fur is a symbol of miss brill the author explains that through out the story. Miss Brill is actually hearing herself cry because she was treated so badly by everyone.
