Certainly, the representations of women in the media has significantly altered within the last 50 years, and mostly in a good way, seeing women as more independent and strong.
Even though countless women have come to be very successful, powerful business women such becoming doctors, lawyers and politicians the media still continues to bombard us with what the “perfect” woman should be. Women, on a consistent basis, are less likely to appear more on any media circuit than a man. Introduction to Women Women are a proud gender who have fought hard and continue fighting for their rightful place in society throughout history. It is no argument that women today are treated much better than they have been in the past but that is not to say there are no lingering inequalities that affect women negatively everyday, even in western society. Whilst law typically does not differ between genders, and in theory men and women are allowed to have mostly the same occupations there are still issues such as body rights, street safety, stereotypes, oppression, socially constructed expectations and more.…

There is a very strong relationship between gender and media. The media both print, as well as the television media, has been a major perpetrator of gender stereotypes. This is mainly due to the messages that are carried in some of the messages, ads, movies, and posters that are presented by the different media platforms. The messages passed long through the media can and have been influencing the manner in which the society perceives different genders and their roles in the society (Gill, 2007). It is for this reason that it is very important that the media takes into consideration not only the influence that they want to make the choices of an individual, but they also have to make sure they view this from a larger point of view and explore…
