Academic integrity is a crucial aspect of being a student, and it becomes even more crucial to a person who participates in college athletics. Being caught with academic dishonesty, or cheating, reflects poorly not only on the individual, but also on the team and the university the student is representing. Student athletes are in the public eye much more than the average student is. Student athletes are being watched by the fans, the coaching staff, the compliance office, the professors, the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA), etc. If a student athlete chooses to participate in academic dishonesty, not only does he or she run the risk of being kicked out of school, but he or she also risks their NCAA eligibility, and punishment…

After watching an individual with disabilities fail a few times in a row, we start believing the notion that all kids with disabilities really can’t do it. Because of this, we sometimes even fail to give them a chance to prove themselves, and we put a “cap” on what we think they are capable of. We need to give all of our students a fair opportunity,…

Overweight athletes participate in exercise and sports for similar reason as other athletes, such as maintaining a healthy lifestyle, enjoyment purposes, and achieving their goals. However, the difference is that overweight athletes are being criticised for participating due to the stigma that is associated to their body shape. As social scientist, Erving Goffman (1963) stated, stigma is “the phenomenon whereby an individual with an attribute which is deeply discredited by his/her society is rejected as a result of the attribute. Stigma is a process by which the reaction of others spoils normal identity.” It is evident that the athlete’s heavy shape is the attribute that caused them to be rejected from society and due to this, people perceive these athletes by their body and not for whom they really are.…

Throughout the years, many recreation professionals conducted research in regards to leisure and gender or leisure and race, but not leisure and people who have a disabilities until recent years (Aitchison, 2009). In Anaby et al. ,’s (2013) research, they discovered that people who have a disability also come across different barriers other than lack of programming such as environmental and technological barriers. An example of an environmental barrier would be a building that is not wheelchair accessible. A technological barrier could be a program that is open to providing programs for children of all abilities, but they do not acquire all of the proper equipment of staff to support children with a disability.…

I believe athletes should use their fame to promote a political agenda because they are standing up for themselves. When athletes ever stand up for themselves and a group of people, it gives others who also have the same opinion, a voice that the government or political group may hear allowing a change. Also when athletes use their fame to promote a political agenda or any type of matter, it’s showing how athletes care and have opinion about a serious matter that they may or may not agree with. For example, Jackie Robinson did not stand, sing the national anthem, or salute the flag due to the injustice he experienced everyday from his teammates who were racist, and made him feel marginalized because he was a black man. Another example was…
