Everyone has a different perception of a healthy diet. Some people eat anything and everything they want. However, some people follow specific diets such as paleo, vegetarian, or a vegan diet. A paleo diet is based on the foods assumed to have been eaten by early humans. This diet includes mainly meat, fish, vegetables, and fruits and excludes dairy, grains, and processed foods. A vegetarian diet just excludes meat. A vegan diet is a plant-based diet excludes meat, dairy, egg, fish, or any other animal products. The most typical diet that Americans follow involves consuming mainly animal products such as meat, dairy, and eggs. Most people say that they would never go vegan because some foods they just cannot live without. If someone is asked what their favorite food is they typically say pizza, ice cream, or steak. All of these foods are not part of a plant-based diet. Once you really explore all the food options you find that almost anything that is not vegan can be made vegan and is just as delicious. Some very basic vegan versions of food can be bought at almost every store such as vegan butter, vegan cheese, and vegan egg substitutes. You can incorporate these vegan alternatives to different recipes and they taste nearly identical. For example, if you are baking a cake or brownies, substitute the eggs with vegan egg substitutes and there is no taste difference. There are many foods that people eat that are vegan and they are not even aware of it. Such as Oreos, microwave popcorn, and other brands of food. Incorporating more plant based foods and limiting animal products such as meat and dairy can lead to a healthier lifestyle. People have more energy when consuming more fruits, vegetables, and plant based foods. However, it is important to remember that a vegan diet is only effective if it is carried out properly. Eating potato chips, oreos, and other types of junk food could be considered vegan, but it is not healthy. Consuming the proper nutrients in fruits, vegetables, proteins, and complex carbohydrates is required to have an effective vegan diet.
