Eye contact is one of the key functions of communication, because I have difficult during presentation and interviews. For example, in my cultural as Somalia, direct eye contact with other person is disrespect. It means that you are not respecting that person but here in US when you are communicating someone eye contact is very import to understand the message of that person. One day I went for oral interview while I was new to the country. Really it was hard time for me because I did not now the system of this great nation. The west of all I did not any eye contact, because of my cultural and I lose that interview. It requires that the listener fully concentrate, understand, respond and then remember what is being said. Attentive listening includes eye contact, posture, facial expressions, gestures and genuine interest in what the person is saying. For example, the first couple weeks of the class, I was not given critical listening style for the power point, but know I improve when watching video and it makes me essay for the class. Before, I didn’t believe critical listening was so important when reading and listening. When it comes to discussion posts and initial posts also played on a major role on my improvement. This was my first class that has online discussions and I have gained a lot. This gives me motivation to read the book and provides me to pay attention to my content.
