Essay On Pitbulls

Many people have a common misconception about pit bulls. The stories in the news about pit bull fighting or someone being attacked by a pit bull, paints a one sided picture in the minds of those watching. The pit bulls are the main focus of the story, instead of the people that abused them or breed them for fighting. Pit bulls themselves are just like any other dog, when it comes to a pet companion. Though many people may argue that pit bulls are inherently dangerous, with a little research and understanding the truth about pit bulls is quite clear. Despite what some people think, pit bulls make great pets because they are smart, loving, and loyal. (Babcock, P. WebMD)

This contributes to the misidentification of pit bulls in relation to reported attacks. Because of this misidentification, the numbers that are presented in news reports about dog bites are skewed, creating the view that pit bulls are inherently aggressive. Pit bulls, like most dogs, are individuals and should be treated as such. The knowing of each dog’s individual personality is one of the most important factors in maintaining a well-mannered dog. Social interaction with other dogs and humans is also a necessity for any dog. Owning a pit bull is not something to take lightly; because of their reputation, people are often afraid of any dog resembling a pit bull. This fear usually causes these people to become panicky and sometimes hostile towards these dogs and the owners. As a result of this reaction, these dogs may feel as though their owners are in danger and could put itself in the position to defend them. What it all comes down to again is being aware of your dog’s individual personality and maintaining calm control over any situation that many occur, wither it is at home or in public.

Despite how long Pit Bulls have been around, stories of Pit Bull attacks didn’t begin to pick up steam until the 1980s. This happens to coincide with the reemergence of dog fighting in the United States ( Liddle, 4). So the point on whether the dog breed is necessarily good or bad is still debatable in some cases. From knowing their history of fighting, having the genetic line of fighting, and the attack rates to knowing that the breed is family safe and having emotions to show the caring of the…

Pit bulls, just like any other dog, want a caring family and a joyous home. Some individuals may argue that pit bulls should not be allowed to be kept as pets due to a few of the vicious crimes they have committed in the past, however, the entire pit bull breed should not be punished for the act of a few of their counterparts. Pit bulls, as long as they have a positive home environment, the proper social interaction, and get plenty of exercise are no more dangerous than any other dog and should be allowed to be kept as pets. Pit bulls, in order for them to behave well, need an owner that will work with them and give them a proper environment. While recently looking up Canadian laws, Animal Rights popped up and seemed very intriguing. From thereon, the Dog Owners Liability Act surfaced and it states “The owner of a dog is liable for damages resulting from a bite or attack by the dog on another person or domestic animal.” This law does make sense that the owner should take the responsibility of their dog because they were the ones who raised the dog to be the way it is but the one sub issue found with this law is the Pit Bull Ban. The total ban on the Pit Bull breed in Ontario is unacceptable because the government shouldn’t be targeting just the one breed because of the actions of several individual dogs, Pit Bulls shouldn’t be treated differently from other breeds, and if the government is already banning a whole breed, what is going to stop them from banning a bunch of other breeds that have the same attack numbers. Throughout this essay, it will be proven that the total ban of Pit Bulls is ridiculous and the law should be revoked.…

The problem is also local and immediate, as Denver, Colorado, has a city ordinance that bans the ownership of pit bulls, a ban that only has a basis in stereotypes and not in reality. As a breed, pit bulls should not be banned, as their stereotyped behavior is not directly related to their disposition as a breed, and measures can be taken by human owners to ensure that they are raised to be well behaved. CAUSES Pit bull behavior is, for the most part, dictated by factors outside of their genetics, and pit bulls begin their development at conception and…

Pit Bulls Should Not Be Banned Pit bulls are often called violent dogs. They are stigmatized as the breed often known as fighting dogs. These dogs are singled out to be restrained or banned and are put to death just for their breed. Banning Pit Bulls Doesn’t Solve the Problem Pit bulls are vicious animals and should not be pets, but let’s look at what they were really bred for. According to the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals, (ASPCA) Pitbull’s were bred for bull-baiting and bear-baiting. They were bred to hold these large animals by the face in the United Kingdom. When this had become illegal in the late 1800s, people decided a new fate for these companions, which was fighting.…
