The film “The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari” is a film that was released during the German Expression. German expressionism was a movement in the 1920’s that because of the horror of WW1, the nation got into a true authentic self. During this time, Germans were interested in art, especially in films. The mise en scene and cinematography from this film is a great example of this movement. Because of this, the film has a very dark setting. The mise en scene was very important in these Expressionistic films. The lighting represents the shadows, and the camera angles helps to the odd angles of the set
