When people want to know what is wrong with them mentally, or physically, they usually go to seek help from a doctor. They seek help from a doctor because they trust them, and they are more knowledgeable than the patient. Some doctors may misdiagnose the patient either because either patient may have given them false symptoms (even so the doctor must do tests to insure that they are giving them the right type of treatment), or it could be the doctors themselves because they do have misconceptions between the terms fear and phobia. There are many different ways/ causes as to why doctors misdiagnose, which could be either from the patient, doctor, specialist, or…

When shadowing Dr. Kevin Charlotten, a family medicine doctor in New York, I was able to see how he looked at the whole picture for all of his patients. For one patient he tied the reports given by different specialists together to treat his patient, a father of four. This patient had a complex medical history, and Dr. Charlotten reviewed his numerous medical reports. At the same time, he found that this patient had the same examinations done twice in the same year by two different specialists. The specialists ran unnecessary tests which contradicted each other, and they never thought to look at his history to see the many redundancies.…

This is why having a healthy 2-way relationship to between doctor and PT is extremely pivotal, one cannot function without the other. Diagnosis is impairments and functional limitations that also extend to conditions and syndromes (Deyle pg.632). Though diagnosis is normally taught in entry-level PT programs, it’s sort of an afterthought to third parties who want more of a guaranteed analysis. The majority of medical providers know that PT’s are knowledgeable when it comes to diagnostically accessing a patient and defining the best fitting rehabilitation for them, but want more assurance, hence seeking the opinion of a doctor first. In the end, a PT’s diagnosis judgement of a patient isn’t as credible or holds as much impact as a doctors but the risk in total of a bad diagnosis from a PT is extremely low compared to the substantial benefits it…

Another example of the negatives of diagnosis can be seen through an Autistic Diagnosis. The article, “Missing and misdiagnosis on the autism spectrum: Potential consequences and implications for practice” by Jones (2016), discusses the issues of missing and misdiagnosing individuals with autisms. Unfortunately, most of the time autism can be mistaken for other conditions, which include: learning disabilities, ADHD, semantic pragmatic disorder, other speech and language difficulties and dyslexia (Jones, 2016).…

It is not easy to find a person who can confess the mistakes that they have committed. Therefore, Gawande wrote this article not to seek sympathy from the readers but to ensure that the public understand their situation. This was because he gave as much details as possible in order for the readers to make their choices about the issue because most of the time the doctors are criticised because of their mistakes. Since human beings are prone to mistakes, Gawande wanted understanding from the people. As much as the mistakes are unavoidable, doctors are always tryingimproving and correcting their mistakes.…

The complicated process which leads to just the diagnosis of this disease is often extremely expensive, given that this is a relatively new discovery, and some of the tests required for detection are not covered by most insurance, which can be a major problem for some. Additionally, people living in lower-income communities may not have access to experts in certain diseases, leaving them more vulnerable to misdiagnosis from potentially less experience or less knowledgeable doctors. According to Dr. Souhel Najjar, an expert on NMDAR, about 90% of those suffering from NMDAR in 2009 went undiagnosed (Castillo). This means that there may be people in comas or people stuck in psych wards that have this disease and may not even know about it. The…
