Misconceptions To Learn From Noah's Ark

Pass it On

I like it when people pass on advice, tips, and warnings about . . . well just about anything and everything. I feel like it gives me an edge. (Not that I always agree 100% of the time, but the times I take the advice offered or heed the warning sent forth, I’m grateful to have known that knowledge beforehand.) I also like this this age-old advice: all you need to know is right in front of you.

So when I read this news flash in our church bulletin, I knew I’d be passing it on in a blog post.

Everything we need to know about life, we can learn from Noah’s Ark…

1. Don’t miss the boat.
2. Remember that we are all in the same boat.
3. Plan ahead! It wasn’t raining when Noah built the Ark.
4. Stay fit. When you’re 60 years old, someone may ask you to do

When you’re stressed, float a while.
10. Remember, the Ark was built by amateurs; the Titanic by professionals.
11. No matter the storm, when you are with God, there’s always a rainbow waiting.

Personally, number 9 and 11 reach out to me.

I know how stress can do a number on our bodies and souls. The long-term effects of stress are—well stressful. Listen to these known conditions brought on by stressing ourselves out: high blood pressure, increase risk of heart attacks and strokes. If that doesn’t scare you, how about knowing your stress can speed up the aging process, along with making you vulnerable to a host of mental and emotional problems. Oh, I need to go float in a boat, or lie under a tree. Somewhere, where I can breathe in the good and breath out the bad.

Somewhere, where I can meditate for a long while and let myself concentrate on breathing in love, and breathing out hate, peace in lieu of war, faith instead of fear, truth verses lies.

Somewhere, where I can come to grips with realizing that no matter the storm, when you are with God, there’s always a rainbow waiting.

Wherever you are all you need to know is right in front of

Give examples of how the practice of ministry has affected your experience and understanding of A) God At the core of my understanding of God is a God of love in covenantal relationship with God’s children. Romans 8:38-39 says it well; “For I am convinced that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor rulers, nor things present, nor things to come, nor powers, nor height, nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord.” The practice of ministry has only proven to strengthen that belief. I was called early Saturday morning to sit with a family who had just learned of the death of their daughter/granddaughter in a vehicle accident.…

We’re all going to get old. It’s not something people want or like to think about. In fact, some people, even adults, are hesitant to spend time with elderly people because it can remind them of their own mortality. [5] There’s no doubt that some aspect of aging will be uncomfortable or undesirable. [1] Whether it’s your family pushing you into a senior living center, having health issues, facing age discrimination or really just having your body fail (which it surely will), some part of aging is going to suck.…

The question is now how could he fit two of every animal in the world in there AND make it still float? The boat had to have the same amount of force on the ocean as the weight of the water it displays. The students thought about it and tried looking for the mass.…

In a mental health setting, stress refers to a person feeling that they are not able to deal with the situation with which they are faced (Mindful Employer 2011). A small amount of stress, often called pressure, can be helpful to increase motivation and production, and produce a feeling of achievement when a task is completed. However, extreme stress may impair a person’s decision making and their ability to carry out normal chores, and may even cause emotional or physical symptoms such as anger, despair, stiff muscles, or frequent headaches (Department of Labour and Occupational Safety and Health 2003). Excessive stress may also contribute to or worsen mental health problems such as anxiety or depression (Department of Labour and Occupational Safety and Health 2003;…
