Abortion has been a widely contested topic throughout our history. For many religious reasons abortion has been looked down upon and is described as something as awful as murder. What is often neglected to be put in perspective is the situation in which abortion is used. The stigma around the word abortion deters women from seeking out procedures like this for fear of judgement and shame. Abortion, when used in the right context, can be the best choice for both the mother and the unborn child. The decision to be pro-choice is a way to give women the right to control what happens with and to their bodies. The laws that are in place need to be reformed to provide more support to women, psychological effects of both maintaining and terminating

In following that statement, it is the natural right for women to have a say in what happens to their bodies. Victims of sexual abuse should have a say in what happens to them because the fact that privilege was already stolen from them when they were targeted by predators. Unplanned pregnancies can be prevented, dysfunctional families, and some cases of post partem depression can also be helped. Women who are forced to carry unwanted pregnancies to term are more vulnerable to postpartum depression, which is when the mother does not connect with the baby and it makes her feel depressed or helpless. While women often overcome post partem depression in a few weeks or months, the illness could be prevented in this circumstance my giving the pregnant mother a choice of what to do. With pro-choice comes options. With options comes action, and with action comes results. The rights of women must be upheld; it is not fair to the potential baby or the mother to have to go give birth to a child she may not be ready for or want. It can be the best option for mother and child in the appropriate instance. Women have worked hard to get to the goal of equality, and not giving women the right to their body violates their rights as human
