All homeless people are dangerous and criminals or that they are all drug addicts and drunks are stereotypical factors that are being encountered by millions of people around North America. Today, hearing a stereotype is a normal thing because in today's society people are quick to judge so they jump into conclusions about someone. Meaning they judge a book by its cover. A misconception is a conclusion that is wrong because it is based on a failure to understand a situation. Misconceptions are used in today’s society because individuals fail to achieve to gather the necessary or useful information to understand a person at a level where they are not being judge by how people act or look. This is known as a misconception; a misconception is usually results from incorrect thinking or a flawed understanding because they don't know the facts. Misconceptions are brought up to attention to everyone everyday, they are first started as an opinion or how one views a group or individual. Because they are only opinions or how one believes another person is, they are purely based on untruths. Also misconceptions are created because people who start them just want to be at the center of attention and people just want to see other people hurt. For example, a popular misconception people believed was that The Earth revolves around the Sun, but in reality Earth, the sun, and all of the other the planets are orbiting around the centre of mass of the solar system, and it may or may not be specifically the sun. More examples of misconceptions would be that; Fortune cookies are a Chinese tradition, Vitamin C is an effective treatment for a cold, Caffeine dehydrates you, and People use just 10 per cent of their brain. Growing up in America people are exposed to many misconceptions but what is the source that starts one. Well scientists say that misconceptions originate from personal experience, lack of examples, how the media presents information, and how one person interrupts the information to others. Others things that are similar to misconceptions would be prejudice and discrimination. Behind prejudice is having an opinion without having and facts or knowledge to back it up. Discrimination is similar but it is more about taking actions instead of having an attitude toward it. So a misconception is a view or opinion without having any true facts to back it
