Misconceptions Contributing To Campus Diversity

Decent Essays
I am a second generation Latino-American who is outgoing and friendly. I would contribute to the campus diversity by sharing my Latino culture with the students of NC State. I find that there are many misconceptions about what it means to be a Latino-American. This could benefit the campus by giving them the knowledge of another culture and their beliefs, so they're able to expand their worldly view; and maybe inspire people to visit Latin America and learn, since this is what diversity is about. In addition, I’m outgoing and friendly, so I would encourage other students diversity, to help me expand my knowledge and theirs. As well, as expand our view points that would allow us to grow as a community. I would try my best to break people

The diversity at NC State is one of the many reasons that draws me to the University. I look forward to meeting the vast array of individuals who all unite as one in the Wolfpack. Diversity will allow me to understand different people for who they are, not how they are presented in the media and popular culture. Different viewpoints, languages, ethnic groups, and nationalities are just a few of the things I hope to experience at NC State. I find it important to create acquaintances from various backgrounds in order to unite ourselves as fellow humans, regardless of where we were born or what language we speak.…

Most people had the perception that this case only dealt with schooling prior to the post-secondary level, however that is not true, according to Strayhorn and Johnson. With programs at universities such as the MACIE program at Bowling Green State University, which Pempho is a member of, these types of programs encourage a more diverse student body and supports the rulings of Brown v. Board of Education that separate is not equal. Another key piece of legislation that addresses diversity within universities is Grutter v. Bollinger. This case dealt with diversity being a factor in university admissions. Again, programs such as the MACIE program and schools that factor in diversity into the admission process are not looking to discriminate, but…

I can benefit from the campus diversity at NC State because I want to be at a diverse school. A place where people aren't judged based on the color of their skin. Where people with different backgrounds are able to come together and be united. Where, all people have the opportunity to become what they want. I believe NC State is that place where people aren't judged.…

I found FT to be a very interesting and easy to understand intervention. I appreciated that the focus group was very specific in that the participants had to have been removed from their abuser for two years, yet still had to test at a certain level to continue on in the study. I also appreciated that it was specific to emotional abuse, because it is often not given as much research as aftercare of physical and sexual abuse. Although it was beneficial to limit the participant qualifications, this also limits the ability for the test results to be generalized to other populations. The lack of diversity represented within the participants also limits the ability for the results to be applied to others.…

I am so excited for the opportunity to share in this most diverse campus at NC State! Being a student at NC State, I would both benefit from and contribute to campus diversity. It would enable me to learn about different cultures and inevitably make me a more sensitive person and more tolerant of other peoples views and religious beliefs. Also, being a student at such a diverse campus would prepare me for the work force where I'll encounter people from all walks of life who's views might be different from my own. What I would like to contribute to NC State's diversity are my own set of views and perspectives.…

I would both contribute to and benefit from the diversity at NC State. I am multicultural, as my father moved to America when he was fifteen from Iran. I have grown up around Persian culture, and I am currently learning Farsi. The history of Iran intrigues me, especially since I would not be here today if my dad had not left before the Iranian Revolution. I feel fortunate to have a father who was willing to sacrifice so much for his future.…

I would contribute to as well as benefit from the diversity at NC State University. There are many ways in which my experiences will contribute to the diversity at NC State, such as: living overseas, gaining some college experience prior to attending a university, and living on my own. I spent most of my youth traveling with the military, which allowed me to experience foreign cultures first hand. I obtained college credits by being dual enrolled between Wayne School of Engineering, a high school, and Wayne Community College and had freedoms that other high school students do not have, such as being able to travel to the college as a high school student, as young as a sophomore. As a junior in high school, I was invited to apply to Governor’s…

Diversity Lack of diversity in colleges can sometimes be a problem. For some people college may be the first opportunity they have ever had to communicate with others from different backgrounds. It can also be a way for students to understand one another and embrace the differences of others. Diversity does not only include the different race, ethnicity, religion, or physical appearance. Diversity includes all the aspects that make us who we are today, like our beliefs about philosophy, spirituality, and a range of other human issues.…

After attending a small charter school from 4th grade through 12th, I am looking forward to experiencing a bigger atmosphere. I have kept the same friends since middle school and honestly there is not much diversity between us. I would benefit from NC State’s campus because it would broaden my view of other cultures and beliefs, and force me to reflect on my own opinions. This reflection could lead to exposure to different life experiences and therefore learning from others. Exposure to diversity will help me grow as a person and a student.…
