Misconceptions About God

Improved Essays
Ever since my early to mid-teenage years, I dreamt of publishing a book. After two failed attempts, the Holy Spirit gradually placed various promises of God on my heart. As I diligently studied Scripture and absorbed God’s Word, I recognized how our world falsifies much of what the gospel teaches.

In today’s society, several misconceptions about God and his promises exist. Some people view God as a genie. Others view him as a dictator. I’ve even heard individuals compare God to an old, white, hairy dude on a cloud. As for a matter-of-fact, none of these are true. And our misconceptions about God critically affect our thoughts and perceptions on everyday life.

With this in mind, I sought out to prove how God is both good and present in our current world. Focusing on his promises,

Whew, was I blown away by the quality of responses I received! God made it quite clear to me how this was an astounding avenue for shedding a light on the truth about him and his promises.

As Jim Rohn once poignantly said, “A life worth living is a life worth recording.” Thus, you will encounter some incredible stories throughout this book including: my journey as a Christian, a friend’s recurring battle with brain cancer, my brother’s challenging battle with injuries as an athlete, and a friend who was literally brought back to life after seven minutes of death.

While you can probably imagine, some of these chapters were easier to write than others. Yet, by the grace of God, we can learn from the good and the bad. Each story holds a special place in my heart and I pray yours will be moved also.

Give examples of how the practice of ministry has affected your experience and understanding of A) God At the core of my understanding of God is a God of love in covenantal relationship with God’s children. Romans 8:38-39 says it well; “For I am convinced that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor rulers, nor things present, nor things to come, nor powers, nor height, nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord.” The practice of ministry has only proven to strengthen that belief. I was called early Saturday morning to sit with a family who had just learned of the death of their daughter/granddaughter in a vehicle accident.…

Good To Great In God’s Eyes, by Chip Ingram is an extremely good book with a tremendous amount of challenges and different perspectives on the bible and just life in general. When I first came across this title on the list of books that was given to us, I thought that this book was going to be geared more to leadership. I am not saying that the bible has nothing to do with leadership or that Ingram did not talk about leadership at all, but that was not the main topic of this novel. This novel spoke to me and challenges me where I am today.…

Moreover, promoting the idea that the supernatural and thus God are non-existent. “Furthermore, the idea is that nothing is permanent, absolute and/or fixed and all is in a constant status of ultimate change” (Martin, 2006). This book is a collection of essays, and I found the sub-title interesting. Some of the essays spoke to me and my use of the Old Testament in worship. It was not ground breaking to me, but the notion that the book of Job “functions as a kind of reality check for us as we contemplate what it meant to worship the One who made heaven and earth” is indeed humbling considering our conceptions of God. The power of Job for use in worship is the illustration of God’s extravagant freedom and our inherent limitation” (2396-2399).” This is something that our era of vastly increasing uses of technology seems to forget.…

When I review what we have learn in this class I realized how much I didn’t know about Jesus, or even anything in the book. I’ve learned a lot that I never knew, but some of the stuff I have learn is actually relevant to me and my life, even when I thought none of it would be. The concepts that I think are relevant to me and my life the most would be from the Prison Letters of Paul, when Paul was in the Philippian prison. While Paul was in prison he was still joyful even when he was in hardship.…

Walking into church, you say bye to your mom as you hear the faint sounds of your Sunday school class singing, “He’s got the whole world in his hands”, praising God for creating us. Then comes the question of who is this God, creator of all? The saver of animals through Noah’s Ark, the one we should live for because he created us, the lover of both good and evil.…

According to the IOP, Institute of Physics (2014), “A misconception can be defined as a view that does not fully coincide with the scientific view” (Hutchinz, 2014). It is said that Isaac Newton’s laws are there as a guideline to help with the understanding of science and to steer clear of misconceptions when it comes to the concept ‘force’. This concept is very difficult to teach. Misconceptions occur because people lack the ability to believe in the implications of these laws and to understand their meanings. Cognitive scientists (scientists who study how people learn) have exposed that science students come into the science class with a set of beliefs that they are not easily willing to thrust aside despite evidence to the opposing.…
