Misandry Double Standards

The media has always been a commonplace for feminists and their opinions and beliefs, but even more so recently. Feminism strives for “equality” with men, but oftentimes the media can distort this view. Due to many feminists taking the goal of equality to the point of hating on the male population, the views of feminists have become negative. The media presents a mistaken impression on feminism, which induces the hatred towards feminists, which then only encourages these feminists to expose their hateful actions and words even more. One feminist account on Twitter tweeted out “Here’s your daily reminder that I hate men.” This tweet not only goes against the feminist ideals, but also enrages men and encourages them to argue against feminists. This tweet also gives people the sense that all feminists hate all men. However, this is not always true. When something like feminism is being displayed, and argued about so often, it is also common for the media to influence our thinking. Young girls, for example, are very moldable in their ideals. If they are exposed to feminism and misandry on the media, it is likely that they will adopt these ideals, just because some celebrity did so. A popular tweet reads “What do you call a guy under 6 feet tall? A friend.” This tweet means that if a guy is not over 6 feet tall, he has no chance of getting a girlfriend, but if a guy says anything about a feminist’s appearance, perhaps her weight, the feminist is insulted calls the male out for what he said. This double standard is a problem in society and if feminists believe in equality, they should not be insulted when men give them the same treatment
