Mirena is a type of intrauterine device. It is extremely effective for preventing pregnancy. Many women use Mirena because it is more convenient than having to take a birth control pill everyday. Mirena can prevent pregnancy for up to five years.

Mirena has been linked to many side effects. Thousands of women have reported the negative side effects that they have experienced to the Food And Drug Administration. Clinical trials have shown that Mirena can cause infection, irregular periods, cramping and ovarian cysts. In fact, it is estimated that 60 percent of Mirena users have experienced some side effects while using this medication. Many women stop using Mirena because of the side effects.
