While reading the play The Miracle Worker, written by William Gibson in 1956, and watching the movie The Miracle Worker, directed by Arthur penn released in 1962, there were many similarities and differences. The movie and the play were both about the life of a young blind girl and all the challenges her and her family had to face.
The play and the movie had more similarities than it did differences. For example, at the beginning of both the movie and the play they both always gave snacks and treats to Helen to get her to calm down. Another similarity would be when Helen felt her dolls face and realized it didn’t have eyes, so she got buttons and tried to put them onto the dolls face. Also they both had Helen dressing up like Annie and standing in the mirror. Another example is the lighting, they both had the lighting dim out in between each sence. Another thing that was the same, was when Helen got upset with Annie and hit her in the face with the doll and knocked out Annie’s tooth. Also another thing that was the same was when Helen locked Annie in her room, Helen took the key and hid it in her mouth

For example in the movie they found out Helen was blind and deaf by snapping in helen’s face, and her not moving and when looking at her eyes they could tell she was blind. While in the movie they found out she was deaf and blind because she was staring at the sun and then they took a rattle and shook it in her face and she didn’t flinch. Also a difference would be when Helen and Kate were fighting, in the play Helen cut Kate’s hair but in the movie they were just wrestling and arguing. Another difference would be that in the play they had a scene 4 and in the movie they totally skipped that scene. A difference would also be how both the movie and the play showed how aggressive and out of control Helen was. Another difference is how much Jimmie was part of the story in both the movie and

After hanging up from talking to my mother, I decided to take her advice. If I have to watch the Rocky Horror Picture Show for class that it would the best if I was to actually experience the show, this culture, this step into the past, instead of just watching the musical on my laptop and thinking this is the strangest musical in the world. I looked up if there was even any showings still of this musical, and lucky there was one this the Nuart Theater, of course the midnight showing. The price was only $11, a price I luckily could afford as a poor college student. I called up a few friends, family members, and my roommate…

One of the most important, yet seemingly small differences, is the name given to the narrator in the movie, Charlotte. She never names herself throughout the written story. The choice not to name a main character of a story was very well thought out by Gilman. A no-named character gives the readers the ability to relate because they could just as easily be this person as to anyone else. The writers of the film not only chose to name the narrator, but they chose the name of the author of the original story.…
