Does mint gum have an effect on the temperature of your mouth?
1. Set out 3 eight ounce glasses of water for ten minutes. Find 3 test subjects (age or gender doesn’t matter) and have them approximately 2 ounces of water. Then give them a piece of mint flavored gum to chew for 10 minutes. After 10 minutes, have them spit the gum out and drink the same amount of water.
2. Determine whether or not mint effects temperature. Set out 3 glasses of water. One chilled for 5 minutes in the refrigerator, one at room temperature, and one warmed in the microwave for 30 seconds. Measure the temperature of each. Immediately drop a piece of mint gum in each of the glasses and let them sit for 30 seconds. Once the time has passed, measure the temperature

Characterized by their irresistibly minty taste, Mento's are now sold in 130 countries. But what makes them leave such a frosty sensation and can they actually be capable of depleting temperature? Similar to why peppers taste hot, what’s going on here is there is a chemical in mint, menthol, which is deceiving the cerebrum into believing that the area the menthol is applied to is cold; even though in fact, it’s the same as it was before.
