If abortion or adoption were not choices then the responsibility of the child would most likely fall on the teen’s parents. Teenage mothers are usually single, unemployed, and living at home with their parents. They are dependent on their parents for money and support and are not able to give all their time to their children. That is why the parents should have a say in making the decision because it could affect the parents’ lives as much as the teen mother. Teenage girls that end up pregnant are scared and sometimes ashamed. Having a parent to help the teen reduces the emotional and physical worries. If the parents know what is happening, they can be more alert to the problems their children face before and after the abortion. If her parents are not aware of her thinking about getting an abortion then there is a risk that her and her parents will become alienated at a time when parental support is most important.
