In 2015 there was 10,797,088 arrests made nationwide by law enforcement in the United States of America. According to the NeighborhoodScout powered by Location Inc which receives information from the FBI in just California there was 1,176,866 arrest made on minors that is almost 10 percent of the total arrest made on minors in the United States (FBI,2017)..The population of California according to United States census there is an estimate of 39,250,017 people living in California, and there is a 2.9 percent chance you will be a victim of a crime done by a minor. After reviewing this data what continues up come up is whether minor should be tried as adults for the crime they have committed(U.S. Census). Many people have said "Old enough to do the crime, old enough to do the time" but little do they talk about what caused them to commit these crimes. There many cases that show that giving another opportunity to the juveniles they can turn their life around and help out society. An example of this is fifteen year old Jose who was in a drunk brawl where someone was killed. His gang involvement made the prosecutor aim for him to be charged as an adult but his defense attorney argued to trial as a minor. Jose was charged as a minor and once he was released 3 years later he turn his life around he cut all ties with gang members. Jose now has a job and is attending community college which proves that minor shouldn’t be tried as adults because minor will learn their lesson because the detention centers offer much more than a prison (Soares,2001). This one case of many in which minor turned their life around. Many of these cases have to do with the strain theory and or the social learning
