Social media can in fact be a harsh platform that can stunt the creative growth of a minor due to criticism, and many may give up on their interests all together. However, it can also allow for genuine constructive criticism for artists (be they musicians, artists, or writers), and open the possibility of collaboration with others. Minors should be allowed to have social media accounts because it allows them to experience the platform so they can properly utilize it to pursue career interests.
Minors can promote themselves and become known for work they want to pursue. Tumblr user Floatingmegane-san is a sixteen year old artist with over six thousand followers, and many people request commission work. Due to how many followers he has, there is a greater chance people will share his work with others; his art style is well known and unique, and because of this he has made himself known among the community he's in which can offer potential for jobs. For example, two musicians may find each other through social media and decide to collaborate on a few pieces. Collaborating with others will provide experience for the artists, and give them the potential to learn something, such as a technique, that will aid them in the future. Another example can be seen with two writers. A writer may find someone more experienced to critique and edit their work, while they may provide something such as cultural insight for the other. This type of collaboration provides both writers a learning experience; as the first can learn from their mistakes and build off of that, and the other can gain knowledge to add an interesting aspect to their
