We’ve seen it on countless standardized tests, college and job applications, censuses, and almost every form where personal information is required. Checkboxes inquiring for race or ethnicity seem to separate us, and for good cause, too. There is a reason that the SAT and most universities ask for this crucial piece of information; affirmative action policies give minorities a true chance for equality. While college applications are always stressful, admissions processes are made a bit more facile for those of us who fall into the minority category.
