Minor Prophets: The Book Of Hosea

The book of Hosea the first book of Minor Prophets which the size of the book that was wrote was shorter. I believe the purpose of the book was to illustrate the spiritual adultery of Israel and how God still loved his people and forgave them no matter what sins were made. In chapters 1-3, God tells Hosea to marry an unfaithful woman and he does as God says. His unfaithful wife leaves him and goes to find another man. Hosea was faithful to her and he knows he needs to get her back and so he does and gets her to come back. And I said to her, “You shall stay with me many days; you shall not play the harlot, nor shall you have a man so, too, will I be toward you” (3:3). In chapters 4-14, Hosea talks about how Israel had been unfaithful towards

The book of Jeremiah is basically about how Israel forgot who God was and forgot the covenant they made with Him. The beginning of Jeremiah 2:33 states, “How well you direct your course to seek love!” They sought to find love in other places that are not God, and they prostituted their souls and bodies. The people of Israel and even the priests were involved in idolatry and false prophets in the time of Jeremiah the prophet (Wiersbe 523).…

Though many believers will negate the important effect that their worldviews have on their lives, their worldviews function as a critical pivotal point by which they understand and relate with the rest of the world and by which they motivate themselves. Since humans unconsciously rely on past experience and knowledge to prompt their next move, a worldview provides a lens of understanding through which past perceptions reveal how to understand the present reality. However, many people like to bury their heads in the sand, so to speak, when it comes to acknowledging their worldview’s impact or changing a fault in their worldview. Unfortunately, these people are like someone who refuses to wear corrective lenses, and whose gaze is therefore obscured…

As a freshman, I struck a deal with myself: I would focus on Bible Quizzing and on the Academic Team until I graduated high school, and once I began college, I would focus solely on mathematics. This concentration would allow me to compete at a much higher level in both activities while only sacrificing a few years of studying mathematics. Fortunately, it has worked almost perfectly; I have Bible quizzed multiple times at the National level, have placed third and fourth at State while on the Academic Team, and have a strong chance to be on the first-place teams at Nationals and State this year. However, I was not capable of fully of keeping this deal; I cheated. I did so by digesting the occasional mathematics paper, by reading about and toiling…

From the day of creation until sin was found therein, he was perfect in his way, there was wisdom and perfect beauty. But his perfection was the cause of the pride that led to hid destruction. What would you do if God appeared to you and randomly asked you to be his servant and to complete the impossible? Most of us would probably fail out of pure disbelief or lack of faith. God did so to both Moses and Noah. The Lord spoke to and influenced Moses and Noah, which changed how they saw themselves as individuals and how they contributed to their society. This was expressed in the Bible, and has been retold numerous times, most recently in movies such as The Ten Commandments, Prince of Egypt, Noah and Exodus: Gods and Kings.…

The book of Micah falls into the genre of the Old Testament minor prophets, men divinely chosen by God to reveal His messages to the people. The first three chapters of the book of Micah are attributed to the prophet Micah himself, however the rest of the book is debated to be compiled of additions and recordings by other prophets to enlarge Micah’s message . The discrepancy comes from the dating of the manuscripts, which chapters four to the end of the book are dated to after deliverance from Babylonian, beginning in 538 BC . Micah's prophecy and ministry occurred between 735-686 BC and overlapped with the ministry of two other prophets, Isaiah and Hosea . These prophets wrote during the period of the divided kingdom, when God’s people were…

If law were the sole criterion, God could not have sent his son to redeem the world, any more than Hosea could have gone out to redeem Gomer. But divine love is a force that does not know any bounds; law may follow love, especially in marriage, to give some structure to the form of love, but law can never have pre-eminence. Hosea 3:1-5 also demonstrate the unfailing pursuit of God’s love. When by all standards,…

I thoroughly enjoyed reading through all seven chapters of Philip Yancey’s book “The Bible Jesus Read.” It felt as though I was sitting across form the writer just soaking in all he had to say. After reading commentaries and Bible dictionaries, this book gave a fresh perspective on the Old Testament. Yancey was not interested in the nitty gritty details of the Old Testament like date and author of books, but rather focusing on the point and the big picture.…

Many Christians today struggle to define the right relationship with God. We often do not believe that we need to follow God’s instructions or the words from the chose prophets in the Old Testaments. Old testaments were written many centuries ago. Christians nowadays often conclude that the instructions and words of God from the Old testaments are too old to be reflected with their daily Christian living in 21st centuries. Instead of ignoring the importance of Old testaments, we need to reinterpret in modern words and absorb the teachings from the Old Testaments.…
