Animal Farm Old Major Character Analysis

The story Animal Farm was made to mimic the Russian Revolution. The story has many different characters made up of different animals to represent the people of the Russian Revolution. There are major characters and minor characters, each character has their own part in the story. The minor characters in Animal Farm include Old major, the wise old pig, Mollie, the young mare that cares only for herself and her appearance, and Benjamin the smart stubborn donkey. By focusing on the minor characters one can see how much they help the story take place. Without the minor characters the message of the story would not be portrayed.
Old Major is a representation of Vladimir Lenin, a man who led the start of the Russian revolution and had dreamt of an ideal society for their people. However, Vladimir Lenin died near the beginning of the Revolution. Old Major has the same role as Lenin he began Animalism (the books form of the Russian Revolution) he spoke of the ideal society saying, “This single farm of ours would support a dozen horses, twenty cows, hundreds of sheep−and all of them living in a comfort and a dignity that are now almost beyond our imagining.” He declared that the way to freedom was to “Remove Man from the scene, and the root cause of hunger and overwork is abolished forever.” As well he died at the beginning of the revolution. Without these characters the revolution wouldn’t have happened the way it did and would not have shown how wrong the leadership style was. Old major was the character that started the revolution. Mollie showed that everyone wasn’t interested in the revolution, she did not like the rules or way that the revolution was running so she left. Benjamin showed how wrong the revolution was, because he knew the truth about all that was happening. With these three characters they message of the story was clearly
