Minnesota Timberwolves Internship Report

Decent Essays
I’m very excited to apply for the opportunity to be a member of the Minnesota Timberwolves’ Action Pack team. It is an exciting time for the Minnesota Timberwolves, with the additions of Jimmy Butler, Jamal Crawford, Taj Gibson and Jeff Teague in the offseason and these new arrivals have brought a renewed buzz and excitement to the Timberwolves fan base and I believe that I could help the Action Pack team to help build off that excitement to help a create an unforgettable game day experience at the Target Center.

Currently, I’m entering my senior year at the University of Wisconsin – River Falls, with classroom experience coming from taking a sports marketing class in addition to my internship experiences with the UW-River Falls athletic department

As the new NBA season about to unfold months from now, many teams have upgraded their lineup, especially at the point guard position. The New York Knicks got former MVP Derrick Rose from the Chicago in a trade this offseason and the Indiana Pacers got Jeff Teague from the Atlanta Hawks thru trade also. Standing outside the Pittsburgh Penguins locker room after Game 5 of the Stanley Finals against the Nashville Predators I had never been more excited of the career path I chose. The adrenaline and anticipation as we wait for the locker room to open up for interviews only makes me more excited as I know I will be the only woman with a camera pushing and shoving for that perfect shot. Getting to see my favorite team get to the Stanley Cup Finals and being able to film every step along the way is a moment I will always remember and being able to be a part of history as the Penguins clench the series and win back to back cups. The parade that followed was unreal as all of Pittsburgh turned out for the team and there I was filming every moment. These two moments are only a few that have made me want to work in the sports industry as a cinematographer, editor, or producer.…

My short term goal is to utilize my marketing skills to increase school pride at UCSC athletic events. As the current marketing coordinator for UCSC's NCAA sports, I hope to increase fan turnout and interaction with the athletics within the campus. UCSC is known for having a lack of school spirit, and I have come from schools that have prioritized sport’s pride. Since sport’s culture is such a fundamental part of college, I wanted to take on the challenge of changing the way this school knows sports. My long term goal is to thrive as a marketing professional, whether it would be as a chief marketing officer or as the VP of marketing, and to one day run my own marketing agency.…

Ever since my senior year of High School, the joke was “C’s get degrees”. I walked into my freshman year of College at the University of Wisconsin – Manitowoc with the same idea. I chose to go to the University of Wisconsin – Manitowoc because I was unsure what I wanted to do with my life. I took a variety of classes hoping to find what I wanted to do, but I didn’t take them as serious as I should have. I was stuck in the mentality of “C’s get degrees”, so why would I try if I’ll get a job anyways with a degree, which is what I was always told.…

For as long as I can remember, I have had a heart for serving my community and to continue my education beyond high school. As I grew up with a family that earned little income, my mother taught me the essence of discipline and the importance of continuing my education beyond high school. As a high school graduate and an adult, I have allowed the trials of my life, along with the classes I have completed, to become an opportunity to enhance the skills needed for my future education. I currently attend National Park College, where I plan to continue my education towards an Associate of Arts degree. In the fall, I will attend full-time classes where they will help provide me the necessary training and studies to advance towards my future education.…

In September I accepted a position as the Mayor’s Chief of Staff at Green Bay City Hall. I worked this job until the middle of February. This was probably my favorite internship because I was assigned to do so many different tasks and assignments. I had done some things for the city where I could see the end result and things I did were brought in at a couple of city council meetings. Dr. David Helpap originally told me to apply for the internship at City Hall.…

Working for the Binghamton Tennis Charities, I gained experiences working within the sports industry. The first part of my internship consisted of going out in the Binghamton area and trying to sell sponsorship packages to local businesses. This was much more difficult than I originally thought it was going to be. Since I am not from the Binghamton area, it made it even more challenging because I did not know the area and anyone who owned a business. I received a lot of no’s from people.…
