Persuasive Essay On The Minimum Wage

Minimum wage is best explained as the lowest amount one can legally be paid hourly for work, overall it’s a great idea that should make sure everyone who is working is going to be paid enough to continue living a comfortable life. This could be qualified as a life in which someone can pay their bills, afford necessities such and food and water, and any work expenses such as items for a uniform, or transportation. Undesirably there is a glaring problem with the way minimum wage, particularly that given to workers in tipped positions, and that the price is not nearly enough to keep someone above the poverty line, and hasn’t been for some time. One of the most prominent problems in situations like these is stress due to food insecurity as well as being worried about not having a stable home situation. It has also been found that people living below the poverty line have a higher chance of going through traumatic life events, these events can include; infant mortality, problems within their marriage, and are more likely to be surrounded by violence both in the home and outside of it (Goodman 184). On a more personal aspect people who are living on the minimum wage make more high-risk decisions, are easily aggravated and more aggressive, they also have a higher chance of giving up on tasks sooner as well as have a harder time concentrating and making rational decisions (Smith 561).
