The U.S.'s minimum tipped wage has been frozen since 1991. The minimum wage for non-tipped employees has almost doubled, during the same time. This is a good reason for a wage increase. I have never been a server myself, because of the federal tipped minimum wage. The hourly rate you get paid, is assuming that you can make a living with the tips you get instead of the hourly wage. What if, you don't get tipped enough? You would either have to take a second job or not make enough to live. The cost of living nowadays is so high, that servers cannot live on tips alone.
