This global predicament can be solved. While there may not a single, easy solution there are plenty of small yet effective changes that can drastically improve the situation. Firstly, I would propose to augment minimum wage rates. Those who don't earn as much, won't have to borrow as much anymore. Secondly, we should readdress the way in which we can use public policies for government projects of all levels to benefit the local community. For example, after reinvestment in Regent Park, one of the poorest areas of toronto; procurement policies stipulated that 25 per cent of jobs related to the rebuild go to local residents. It was an effective way of ensuring that greater economic benefits flowed directly to the community that needed it most.
