Minimum wage is a highly debated topic that affects our whole country. Since it’s implementation in 1938, the Fair Labor Standards Act, which is the first act in the United States prescribing nationwide compulsory federal regulation of wages and hours (“Fair Labor Standards Act,” 2017), opened up a world of heated discussion regarding the minimum wage in the United States. Today, many economists still disagree about the effectiveness of the minimum wage. The minimum wage both helps and hinders low income families, and although arguably not high enough to sustain the average American family, it is fair in the sense of the skills required to earn it.
