Minimum Wage Pros And Cons

Improved Essays
In my point of view I believe that Waffle now servers should be paid the higher federal minimum wage for the non-tiped employees. My reason why is because their base pay is so low, they have to depend on tips has a major part of their income. However even with tips some many of them end up earning less than the federal non-tipped minimum wage. which means that that the workers who rely mainly on tips are more likely to need goverment assistance. I believe they should take away the tipped minimium wage because some workers really rely on their tips because the pay amount is very low. If one day they dont make any tips, or are very slow then that means that they dont have a realiable job to rely on. they wont be able to support themselves

This week we began to revisit the employment law textbook. In Chapter 12, we discussed wages, hours, and pay equity. Of the first topics we discussed was the federal minimum wage. States are required to meet the federal minimum wage, but can provide more. As I am approaching college, I have a lot of things to think about it. One of them being, that as soon as I leave, I am going to have to quit my food service job. I am only able to work three days of the seven, but I still do make a little bit of pocket money, which is nice. When I quit that, that little bit of money will stop coming in, and I will be forced to pay for my necessities and luxuries out of what I already have, or get another job in college, where I will have even less time. With that in mind, I do believe that a minimum wage hike should be instituted, since what is currently being paid is not a living wage for full time workers, and would be a nice incentive for those unable to work full time.…

Most of the time, customers do not tip the employees and the employees get an income way less than the minimum wage. These people who work as much as a middle class man does, cannot run his living with an income less than a Sirloin Burger at McDonald’s. There should be no minimum wage, making it easier for the employees to earn and the customers to interact with the employee. According to the National Employment Law Project, the government should raise the tipped wage to 70 per cent of the full minimum wage. If the minimum wage increases, the customers won’t have to tip the employees.…

The minimum wage refers to “ the lowest rate of remuneration that an employer may legally pay” (Law and Martin, 2009). Many developed countries such as the United Kingdom and New Zealand have set up the minimum wage system in the last century (Starr, 1981). By doing so, it may protect the basic employees’ rights, increase the standard of living, reduce the disparity between rich and poor as well as alleviate the poverty problem in the country. A key reason for the importance of understanding the minimum wage is the increasing exploitation of employees’ rights in many nations. This essay will point out the drawbacks and the advantages of this policy and give Hong Kong, the United Sates and the United Kingdom as an example, which are then evaluated and proved the minimum wage should be legalized.…

As someone who makes his living on mostly tips it might sound obvious that I don’t want the tipping system banned, but there are a lot of people out there that think it should be. People argue that tipping is unreliable and unpredictable and that an hourly fixed rate would be better for servers. The truth is that tipping is not as unpredictable as people think and is actually much better for servers than a fixed hourly rate As a delivery driver, I have noticed a pretty big difference between the quality of my service and how much people tip. If I get there early people normally give me a better tip, and if I’m really late, I’ll get a smaller tip or no tip at all. The same thing happens with waiters and waitresses in restaurants, better service…

Millions of people and families would benefit from an increase in the minimum wage. Today the federal minimum wage is currently at $7.25, but should be at nearly $10, or better yet even higher.
