There was no sense in trying to control the madness of our large group, of fifty year olds to five year olds. It was a great day, the sun was out and the summer breeze was perfect. Our huge mob, a third of us high schoolers from Missouri and the rest elementary kids from a few miles down the highway in a lower income area, walked around taking in the downtown sites of Detroit. We had started by having a nice picnic in the park crowding around small tables to make our sandwiches and playing with the Frisbee. After packing up and catching all of the trash blowing around in the wind, we had the rest of the day to explore the shops and cool places scatter across the downtown area. The kids will be trapped into trying to survive off of the only opportunities available to them, which would be minimum wage jobs. Surviving on $7.25 is nearly impossible, especially when a family has to be provided for as well. With a family living off of that low of an income, there are not a lot of choices able to be made. Workers at minimum wage jobs are all the time going on strike for higher wages. Claiming that their current is not enough to live off of. This is angering those who have higher salaries and jobs that required years of schooling and training. It has been asked why a minimum wage worker should have an income they can live off of. Minimum wage workers should be high school students earning enough to go to the mall on the weekends, not lazy people who didn’t want to go to school. Some have even gone to saying that a person asking for higher pay at a minimum wage job deserve to be broke.
Between the violence taking place and the minimum wage arguments, the level of hostility towards those in classes lower than the poverty line has become very high. There have been many attempts to help with the issues through government programs and other means. With the attempts to help lift some out of poverty, more problems arose when those with higher incomes are not happy with their money being taken through taxes and having it go to the
